Oranges and Blues

Edmund Helmer of BoxOfficeQuant created the following visualisation by analysing the colours used in over 300 movie trailers. He sampled both the hue, saturation and value of each frame of each trailer and visualised the distribution of these colours. 

From this simple distribution chart, it's abundantly clear that orange is the most common colour used in trailers, swiftly followed by blues. A fascinating observation. 

I would love to compare the colour analysis for the trailers and the full-movies side-by-side, as I think it would be interesting to see if the pattern significantly shifted. After all, movie trailers sure do love to cram in a lot of explosions...
