I have fallen in love with this series of subtly animated graphics by Eleanor Lutz. Rather than being a distraction, the animation both compliments and adds to the subject matter. A static graphic simply wouldn’t be able to illustrate this material in as comprehensive a way as is shown here and there certainly would be something missing if we were only presented with sketches of the animals and the wing path.
The pairing of this simple animation with colour and graphical elements helps bring the subject matter to life and aids our overall comprehension.
Animation can often be mis-used, but if we’re able to see more applications like this in the presentation of data, it could be an exciting new space indeed.
